In der Betreuung der europäischen Quarter Horse-Züchter könnten sich in Zukunft deutliche Veränderungen ergeben. Am 11. Januar 2019 traf sich die AQHA, vertreten durch AQHA Chief International Officer Dr. Anna Morrison, dem Präsidenten der FEQHA Dr. Andrew Dren und AQHA Executive Vice President Craig Huffhines, mit Dr. Alf-Eckbert Füssel, dem stellvertretenden Leiter der Abteilung Tiergesundheit und Tierschutz der Europäischen Kommission, in Brüssel (w!.com vom 28.01.19).

Hintergrund ist die Anerkennung der AQHA als Ursprungszuchtbuch für Quarter Horses in der EU, wie AQHA Executive Vice President Craig P. Huffhines in einem Schreiben erläutert, daß die DQHA nur teilweise veröffentlichte (siehe hier).

Damit beansprucht die AQHA nun auch in der EU den Status, den bislang die DQHA seit dem 17.05.2013 für sich vereinnahmt, nämlich die Führung des Ursprungszuchtbuches für die Rasse und den Züchter (siehe hier).

Hier die restliche Meldung der AQHA:

*Studbook of Origin*

While meeting with the European Commission, AQHA was made aware that as of November 1, 2018, AQHA was recognized by the EU as the studbook of origin for the American Quarter Horse. This recognition was automatically arrived at based on several factors, including the following:

- AQHA is the holder of the historical records of all registered American Quarter Horses.
- AQHA's breeding program (rules of registration) was officially listed by the EU in spring 2018.
- The EU laws implemented on November 1, 2018, included definitions allowing a studbook of origin for a particular breed to exist and be recognized outside of the EU.

Prior to November 1, 2018, the EU recognized AQHA's German affiliate, DQHA, as the studbook of origin for the American Quarter Horse in Europe. DQHA pursued this recognition to safeguard the breed during a time when EU law did not provide definitions for a studbook of origin outside of the EU.

Following the meeting with the European Commission, Dr. Morrison, Dr. Dren and I traveled to the DQHA offices outside of Frankfurt to review this new information, discuss the implications of DQHA stepping back from the role of studbook of origin per the EU's request, and to thank DQHA for its efforts on behalf of the breed. AQHA and DQHA have had a decades-long partnership that has helped develop a strong and loyal industry of American Quarter Horse breeders and owners in Germany.

Moving forward, AQHA's listing with the EU allows EU member states to operate their daughter studbooks, under the direction of their competent authorities, in alignment with AQHA's breeding program. AQHA's breeding program can be found as the Rules of Registration within the AQHA Handbook of Rules and Regulations.
